NewsOwning a pet is a rewarding experience that can bring physical, mental, and emotional benefits to their owners. However, pet ownership is not without its responsibilities. Pet owners must ensure that their animal is well cared for and given the attention, veterinary care, and nutrition it needs to stay healthy and happy. This includes providing the pet with adequate exercise, sanitation, and a safe and comfortable living environment.
Please be a responsible pet owner, you can contribute to creating a cleaner and safer environment by always carrying poop bags or using the free bags available at the off-leash dog park or along Cummings Lake Trail, and disposing of them properly. You can also encourage other pet owners in your community to do the same.
Picking up after your dog is not only a common courtesy, but it is also a legal requirement that can result in fines. Leaving your dog's waste on the sidewalk, park, or any other public area not only creates an unpleasant environment for others but can also be a health hazard. Dog feces contain harmful bacteria and parasites that can spread diseases and contaminate water sources. It is important for pet owners to be aware of the laws and regulations that apply in our area, such as leash laws, licensing requirements, and other restrictions. The Town of Fairview maintains an off-leash fully fenced dog park located at the northeast corner of town along 108 Ave and 100 St.
The area is equipped with obstacle equipment for your pet to enjoy. The obstacle equipment can help keep dogs fit and healthy while providing a fun activity for them and their owners to bond over. It also provides a safe and secure environment where dogs can run and play off-leash without owners worrying about them escaping or getting into danger.
Each of these obstacles has different levels of difficulty, making it appropriate for dogs of all skill levels and sizes. Signage and instructions on how to enjoy the off-leash area have been posted to avoid accidents or injuries for both dogs and their owners, along with free waste bags and disposal bins.
Any dog and cat over the age of 3 months that takes up residence in the Town of Fairview must be licensed within 14 days of moving to the Town. For questions regarding licensing please call the Town of Fairview Administration Office at (780) 835-5461.

Animal Licensing can only be processed in person at this time. Please visit the Town of Fairview Administration office between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
The Town of Fairview allows a total of 4 animals per residence (maximum of 3 dogs). There are exceptions to this rule which are listed in section 15 of Animal & Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw 1077/AC/2022.
Animal Units – Hens, Roosters, and Horses are allowed ONLY within the R-CR parcel of Country View and North View Estates residential boundary areas No other areas within the Town of Fairview are allowed to maintain Animal Units. The maximum number of these animals is in direct relation to the number of acres owned and is outlined in section 42 of Animal & Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw 1077/AC/2022.
The Town of Fairview requires an inspection of the Animal Units’ housing area, enclosures, and care regimen, using the National Farm Animal Care Council, Code of Practice for the Care and Handling; Chicken, Turkeys & Breeders for hens and roosters; and the National Farm Animal Care Council, Code of Practice for the Care and Handling, Equine for horses.
Housing areas and enclosures are required to adhere to the Town of Fairview Land Use Bylaw and building code requirements.
Inspections will be completed by the Animal Enforcement Officer post-licensing of the Animal Units.
Any lost or found Animals can be reported to the Animal Control Officer. Using the information provided regarding the lost animal, the Officer will attempt to locate the animal.
Found Animals will be placed in the Town of Fairview Pound, if the animal has been licensed and the tag is attached to the collar the process of reuniting pets is easier. The Animal Control Officer will use the information associated to your animal’s tag number to contact the owner, every effort to contact the owner will be made before impounding.
Once impounded, the animal’s picture, pick-up location, and characteristics will be posted to our Town of Fairview – Impounded and Adoptable Animals Facebook group. Animals impounded will be subject to the rules as described in Animal & Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw 1077/AC/2022 and any fines will be addressed as per Bylaw 1079/GEN/2022 Enforcement and Penalties for Offences.
A dog running at large does not constitute an emergency but can still be reported to the Animal Control Officer, and if the officer is readily available, a patrol will be made to try to locate the dog.
If you witness or encounter an aggressive dog and believe a human or other animal may be harmed by the dog, this is considered an emergent situation and should be immediately reported to either the Animal Control Officer or the RCMP.
Residents are encouraged to submit animal reporting by using the online submission service, and choosing the Animal Control option in Service Request Category, or by calling (780) 835-1063 (please note a voice message may be required). Include detailed information such as the animal's description, the location of where it was lost or found, and contact information for yourself or the owner.
