The Town of Fairview provides each residential property with a black garbage bin and a blue recycling bin for collection. Holidays may affect collection dates; any changes will be posted on the website.
*Note: All materials must be properly bagged or bundled and approved garbage cans must be used.
For those times when you exceed what can fit in your weekly garbage bin, Bag Tags are available for purchase at the Town of Fairview Administration office. Place the bag sticker visibly on the extra bags and place the bags beside the full black garbage bin at the curb.
Contamination occurs when unacceptable material is placed in the blue bin. Any recyclables that are coming with waste such as garbage, pet waste, organics (food waste and grease), soft plastics or disposable diapers are contaminated and not recycled. Unwashed or dirty recyclables are also considered to be contaminated.
Contamination increases the program cost and ultimately the cost to the resident.
Contamination of one bin – if bad enough – can result in an entire truckload of recycling going to the landfill. For this reason, we are strict and will reject contaminated recycling.

Bins should be placed in front of the sidewalk on the road and must have a 1-meter (3 ft) clearance for the bin lifter system to safely lift the bin for emptying. If you park on the street, please make sure your bin is accessible.
As per Bylaw 1047/GEN/2018 bins are to be set out curbside not earlier than 4:00 pm the day before service and must be removed from the street by 12:00 pm the following day of service.
In an effort to promote sustainability and reduce waste, the Town of Fairview has taken a significant step by providing public flattened cardboard recycling bins throughout the downtown shopping district. These large blue bins are strategically placed to make recycling convenient and easily accessible for residents and visitors alike.
To ensure the effectiveness of this recycling initiative, it is crucial that we follow certain guidelines when disposing of cardboard. By adhering to these guidelines, we can guarantee that the recycling process runs smoothly and efficiently.
By following these guidelines, we can work together to make Fairview a greener and more environmentally conscious community. Recycling cardboard not only conserves valuable resources but also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and landfill waste.
Extra bags will be collected only if the lime green extra bag tag is affixed to the bag. Please do not place additional bags curbside until the day of collection to avoid the potential for litter. Ensure extra bags are placed 3 ft from the collection bins, curbside.
Bag tags can be purchased from the Town of Fairview Administration office for $1.00 (+GST).
A list of what is allowed to be received by our landfill and recycling area is available.
Collection days for both black and blue bins are Wednesdays of each week. Holidays may affect collection dates; any changes will be posted on the website.
Do NOT use liners. Contents must be either loose or secure in recycling bags.
All garbage must be placed in the black bin securely in bags.
If your bin is missing or has been damaged, please contact the Town of Fairview Administration office. There is a replacement fee of $75.00 (+GST) for any missing or non-repairable bins. Bins that require repair and maintenance (ie. Lid replacement, cracked bin, wheel replacement) will be completed at no cost.
All bins are numbered, and this number is registered with the property address. All bins stay with the residence if a person moves, therefore bins will be at the residence when you move in. If you are missing your bins when you move in, please contact the Town of Fairview Administration office as soon as possible.
For newly built residential homes, please contact the Town of Fairview Administration office to have your bins registered and delivered to the new property address.
Billing for garbage and recycling collection service is attached to your Town of Fairview utilities bill.
